Purchasing the exam

The NCCPT-CPT certification exam can be purchased as a stand-alone item but is often included for free, or at a reduced cost with the ISSA Certified Personal Trainer Course. Be sure and check your ISSA student portal before purchasing to ensure you do not already have the exam available to you.

Please note that a separate exam fee is charged by the testing vendor, Prometric.

A valid CPR certification is required to sit for the NCCPT-CPT exam. The ISSA CPR/AED certification course can be completed online within an hour. A free CPR/AED certification may have been included with your ISSA bundle.

Scheduling & Retakes

NCCPT certification exams are administered by Prometric and exams are offered at Prometric testing centers or via remote online proctoring.

Candidates preferring a controlled environment may find a testing facility more suitable, while remote testing offers flexibility for those who cannot easily access a testing center. Candidates considering remote testing should review Prometric’s ProProctor User Guide for technical and environmental requirements.

How to Schedule the Exam

  1. From your ISSA student portal, scroll to Optional NCCPT Exams → select NCCPT CPT Exam → click Request Exam Eligibility Code.Review your personal information. Your first and last name must exactly match your government-issued ID. Update any errors before requesting your code.
  2. Once confirmed, click Request Exam Eligibility Code.
  3. You’ll be redirected to the Scheduling page, where you will see your code.
  4. Copy the code and choose from remote scheduling or at a local testing center.

How to Reschedule or Cancel the Exam

  • Rescheduling or canceling a future exam may be done here. 
  • A candidate who missed their exam date and still desires to sit for the exam should contact support@nccpt.com for scheduling information.

How to Retake or Extend the Exam

  • Candidates have twelve months from the date of purchase to sit for the exam or retake it should they fail. Candidates wishing to retake the exam must do so within this twelve-month testing window, with a 14-day waiting period following the first attempt, 90-days after their second, and one year after the third.
  • In the event the candidate fails the exam and the waiting period to retest extends beyond the initial 12-month testing window, candidates may request an additional six-month extension for free. If after 18 months additional time is required, a six-month extension can be purchased for a fee.
